Social Protection: an "emerging" issue for the UN Commission for Social Development

During sessions held this week, the UN Commission for Social Develoment recognised social protection as one of the "emerging issues" and highlighted its role in that times of crisis. The EU's representative at the session emphasised that decent work and social protection play a key role in fighting poverty (read statement). Thus, the EU remains committed to further developing policy dialogue with the strategic partners and in international fora, notably the UN, the ILO and G20.
