NGOs concerned by EC proposal for Seasonal Workers' Directive

[11/03/2011]

On 7 March, SOLIDAR hosted a meeting bringing together several NGO networks for a first exchange of views on the EC proposal for the Seasonal Workers' Directive COM (2010) 379. NGOs present expressed concerns regarding the directive and will put together a briefing paper outlining these concerns and putting forward recommendations which could help ensure that both the demand for migrant workers in the EU is met and that seasonal workers coming to Europe enjoy the same treatment as EU citizens.

The Commission's Directive on Seasonal Workers aims to contribute to the effective management of migration flows from third countries by setting out rules for admission and rights of stay of seasonal workers, while at the same time preventing temporary stay from becoming permanent or irregular. SOLIDAR will contribute based on our member's work to support migrants and defend their rights (read case study).
