SOLIDAR contributes to Commission consultation on Migration

In its contribution to the DG Home Affairs public consultation on the Global Approach to Migration (GAM), SOLIDAR emphasised that the recent EC Communications on Migration (4 May and 24 May) prioritise skilled migration and border security, thereby ignoring one of the key reasons for migration which is the lack of access to decent work opportunities, in particular for undocumented migrants. Therefore, migrant rights, their portability - ensuring that when workers move, they carry their rights with them, decent work and related policy coherence for development (PCD) to prevent brain drain have to be the main priorities of the new communication on the GAM due at the end of 2011.
