Silver Rose Awards
CeremonyThe awards ceremony, held each year in the European Parliament, is an important event in the Brussels political calendar. It provides a rare opportunity for people to come together to celebrate the work of civil society and is attended by leading figures in the fight for social justice.
The Silver Rose winners take centre stage at the awards ceremony to present their work and address the assembled audience. The ceremony also provides an opportunity for participants to learn more about the work of SOLIDAR and to network with people from other sectors who share their commitment to the values the awards represent.
SOLIDAR then organises a full programme of visits in Brussels for each award winner to give them the opportunity to meet key European decision makers, journalists and relevant NGOs and further their cause.
Over 300 people attended the 2011 ceremony including SOLIDAR’s member organisations, EU decision-makers, government representatives, civil society partners and the media. Speakers included László Andor, Commissioner for Employment and Social Affairs; Véronique de Keyser, MEP; Martin Schulz, President of the Socialist Group in the European Parliament; Philip Cordery, Secretary General of the PES; and Zita Gurmai MEP and Vice-Chair of the Committee on Constitutional Affairs and President of PES Women.
The next edition will take place in the Members Dining Room in the European Parliament on 6 March 2012, hosted by Véronique de Keyser MEP.
