Migration

Overview

Today, most of the world’s migrants are workers and their families in search of employment. This is also reflected on the political agenda of the EU and SOLIDAR is an increasingly visible actor at European level in this area, playing an active role in contributing to the debate on EU legislation on migration.

SOLIDAR’s work has two axes:

SOLIDAR member organisations are involved in a variety of migration-related projects and programmes ranging from service provision (legal counselling, language courses, outreach, education) to advocacy and lobbying (awareness-raising, campaigns for migrants’ rights and against discrimination) and to co-development.

Target groups include migrant workers, undocumented migrants, refugees and asylum seekers, the victims of trafficking, female migrants and unaccompanied minors. Members focus both on social services and other activities in Europe, and on international development and humanitarian aid overseas. This unique mix has enabled member organisations who engage in both fields to implement co-development projects geared at helping migrants in their efforts to contribute to the development of their countries of origin.
