Sign the Call to Action for Decent Work!

Half of the world’s workforce earns less than $2 a day. 12.3 million women and men work in slavery. 200 million children under the age of 15 work instead of going to school. 2.2 million people die due to work-related accidents and diseases every year. Add to this massive global unemployment, the lack of social protection for the majority of workers employed in the “informal economy”, together with the violation of trade union rights, and the consequences of the lack of decent work are clear.

To hold governments and global leaders to account, the Call to Action for Decent Work was launched on 31 October 2007 in Lisbon. The Call is a citizens’ petition highlighting 7 crucial areas - decent work, rights, social protection, trade, aid, debt and migration - which will be publicised throughout the world and the signatures collected will be presented to decision-makers at key events.

The Decent Work for a Decent Life campaign focuses on employment creation, workers’ rights, social protection and social dialogue. It aims to build awareness of Decent Work amongst citizens, decision makers and key institutions and to ensure that Decent Work is placed at the core of development, economic, trade, financial and social policies at national, European and international level.

The campaign is led by
International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), Global Progressive Forum, Social Alert and the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) and Solidar.

The Decent Work Decent Life campaign is supported by EuropeAid through the Jobs Jobs Jobs project.
