Should the Treaty of Lisbon enter into force in some form during the course of 2009, there will potentially be four top EU jobs to be filled: the President of the European Council, the President of the Commission, the President of the European Parliament and the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

All the potential candidates named so far have one thing in common; that they are all male !! In 21st century Europe, the face of the EU cannot be exclusively male.

We the undersigned call on the Heads of State and Government of the Member States, together with the French Presidency, to ensure that the appointment process of the President of the European Council, the President of the Commission and the High Representative is open and transparent, and takes account of gender balance.
